In November 2022, during the peak of the wild Lupin season, we undertook a photographic expedition across the South Island of New Zealand. While initially a private exploration, the objective was to capture high-resolution, iconic imagery of Queenstown, Wanaka, Mt Cook, and Lake Tekapo to expand our Fine Art Print library and drive engagement across social media channels.
The Approach The South Island in spring offers a unique color palette—the glacial turquoise of Lake Pukaki contrasting with the vibrant purples and pinks of the Russell Lupins.
- Technical Execution: We utilized long-exposure techniques to capture the serenity of the famous “Wanaka Tree” and the motion of waterfalls, while high-sensitivity sensors were used to capture the Milky Way above the Church of the Good Shepherd in Tekapo.
- Composition: The focus was on “hero” landscapes that serve as standalone art pieces, balancing foreground interest (lupins, rocks) with the majestic background of the Southern Alps.
The Result A stunning collection of landscape imagery that has been successfully commercialized as fine art prints for residential interiors. The series also performed exceptionally well on social media, serving as organic destination marketing that highlights the natural beauty of the region to potential tourists.
